Today, I tried to remake the YSL June box bag. You know, the one with the classic style. It is a pretty popular bag, so I thought, why not give it a shot?
First, I went online to look for some info about this bag. I heard that YSL has lots of bags, like the “Loulou,” named after some fancy lady who was friends with Yves Saint Laurent. I also found out that you can find used YSL bags all over the internet. They say you can even find them on Farfetch.
Then I started gathering my materials. I used calfskin leather, ’cause that’s what the original bag’s made of. I also got some brass for the hardware and suede for the lining. I wanted to make it as close to the original as possible.
The process was quite something. I started by cutting the leather according to the dimensions I found online: 19 cm something something. It’s a box bag with a front flap, so I made sure to get that part right. The pivoting Cassandre closure was a bit tricky, I’ll admit, but I managed to figure it out. I used bronze-toned hardware, just like the original. It’s the little details that matter, right?
- Cut the calfskin leather according to the dimensions.
- Made the front flap.
- Worked on the pivoting Cassandre closure.
- Attached the bronze-toned hardware.
- Added the suede lining.
I spent hours working on this bag, trying to perfect every detail. I even made a flat pocket inside, just like the real one. It was a lot of work, but it was worth it.
After I finished, I compared my bag to the pictures of the original one. I have to say, I did a pretty good job! It looks almost identical, if I may say so myself. The leather, the hardware, the closure, everything is just how it is supposed to be.
They say that YSL bags don’t go out of style. Well, I guess I have my own timeless piece now. I don’t know if there’s any difference between YSL and Saint Laurent, but what I do know is that I made a pretty decent replica of their June box bag.
I heard that they even have YSL Outlet Stores Online. Maybe I should start selling my remakes. Everything’s online these days, right? But back in my day, we had to go to the actual stores, you know.
Well, that’s it for my little project today. I’m quite proud of how it turned out. Maybe I’ll try to remake another classic bag next time. Any suggestions?
