This here, this CopyOMEGA, they call it Speedmaster Day-Date. Sounds fancy, don’t it? Well, it kinda is, I reckon. It’s one of them watches, you know, the kind that tells more than just the time. It’s got all these little numbers and hands. Original order, they say. What that mean, I ain’t sure. Maybe that it’s first made, first served. Some folks sure like to line up for that.
Now, I ain’t no watch expert, just wear ’em when I need to know what time it is. But this one, it’s got more than just hours and minutes. There’s even seconds hands! One, two, three hands, all spinning around. And then there’s these little windows, up at the top, near the 12. That’s where you see the day, like Monday, Tuesday. And the month, too, like July, August. This is some new thing for me, all them dates on a watch.
I heard some folks talkin’ ’bout this watch. They say it’s been around a long time, since 1957, or somethin’ like that. That’s a long time! Longer than I can remember, that’s for sure. That’s when folks were really into cars. Fast cars, racin’ cars. This watch, they say it was made for them racers. It sure has lots of numbers, all around the edge, on what they call a “bezel.” That thing is black. I think they call this a black bezel. I guess it’s good for timin’ things, like laps, or whatever them racers do. The black bezel looks shiny and nice, really pops up.
They say there’s different kinds of these Speedmaster watches. Seven kinds, they told me. Seven! Can you believe that? All with different numbers on ’em. How anyone keeps track of all that, I don’t know. This day-date model, it is popular, they say. I guess it is, there are always some folk asking for it. I don’t know what is the difference between them, all watches are the same for me, but some people just like to have the best thing.

And this one, it’s a “CopyOMEGA,” they say. Don’t know what that means exactly. Maybe it’s like a copycat, but a good one? It looks pretty good to me, all shiny and new. Seems like it’s made good, too. Not like some of them cheap watches that break after a week. They told me it’s automatic. What that means is that it keeps going and going as long as you wear it. It’s some sort of magic, maybe. Or some special mechanics. Some like to talk about c.1045. That means something, I don’t know what.
I heard some folks talkin’ ’bout how this watch is famous. They say it’s been to the moon! Can you imagine that? A watch on the moon! Seems kinda crazy to me, but what do I know? I ain’t never been to the moon. But if it’s good enough for the moon, I guess it’s good enough for here. It is that popular, I guess.
Now, I ain’t sayin’ you should go out and buy one of these watches. They’re probably expensive, what with all them fancy numbers and goin’ to the moon and all. But if you’re lookin’ for a watch that tells more than just the time, this Speedmaster Day-Date might be the one. Just remember what I said, it is automatic, it tells you the day and month, it is made since 1957. I don’t know how much it is, but it is for sure a good watch.
This thing, it’s got a lot of little hands. Three of ’em, just for the time! Then there’s another one, a skinny one, that points to the date. Not the day, like Monday or Tuesday, but the number, like 1, 2, 3, all the way up to 31. That’s a lot of numbers on a little watch! I heard it’s called “date indicator.” Fancy word for a hand that shows you the date. Speedmaster Day-Date, that’s what it is. That’s what all the fuss is about, I reckon.
