Okay, so, I’ve been eyeing this Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Mini-Bag from their official flagship store for a while now. You know, the one that’s all classy and has that timeless elegance? Yeah, that one. I finally decided to go for it and remake one, and let me tell you, it’s been a journey!
First, I went down to the leather store. They got a store down there, just for leather. Imagine that! A whole store just for leather. They got all kinds of it. I needed that Saffiano leather, you know, the kind with the special texture? Apparently, Mario Prada, the big guy himself, patented it way back when. This bag, the Galleria, it’s been around since 2007, so it’s kind of a big deal.
I studied the pictures online, the black calf leather one with the gold-tone hardware. It’s got that enamel triangle logo and two rounded handles. Pretty simple, but refined, you know? Minimalist lines, that’s what they say. I started by sketching it out, getting the dimensions right, and figuring out how the pieces would fit together. Then I started cutting the leather.
Man, working with leather is something else. You gotta be precise. One wrong cut, and you’re starting over. It’s definitely a test of patience. Anyway, I cut out all the pieces, then I started stitching. Took forever, but I got it done, slow and steady.

The handles were a bit tricky, I’m not gonna lie. Getting them to curve just right took some doing. And then there’s the hardware. I found some gold-tone pieces that looked pretty close to the real deal. Had to attach the triangle logo, too. That was a delicate operation, let me tell you. I managed to get it on there without messing up the leather. I had to source some hardware that was pretty close to the original. That took some digging, but I found some good stuff online.
After all that, I finally had my own version of the Prada Galleria Mini-Bag. It’s not perfect, but I’m pretty proud of it. It really captures that minimalist, contemporary vibe of the original. Learned a lot about leatherworking, too. Might try another project soon. We’ll see!
