Okay, so I got this crazy idea the other day. I was looking at those fancy Yves Saint Laurent bags, specifically the JUNE BOX BAG, and I thought, “Why not try to make one myself?” I mean, I like a good challenge, and I’ve dabbled in a bit of crafting before. So, I decided to give it a shot, and let me tell you, it was a journey.
First off, I needed to figure out what this “June Box Bag” even looked like. I did some digging online, found some pictures, and studied them like a hawk. It’s a small, boxy bag, made of quilted lambskin leather, with a chain strap and that iconic YSL logo on the front. It looked complicated, but I was determined.
I started by gathering my materials. Now, I didn’t have any lambskin leather lying around, so I opted for some black faux leather that looked pretty similar. I also needed some quilting tools, a gold chain for the strap, and some gold hardware to mimic that YSL logo. It was a bit of a scavenger hunt, but I managed to find everything I needed at my local craft stores and online.
Getting down to business
Cutting and Quilting
- I started by cutting out the pattern pieces from the faux leather. I made a simple box shape, with two side panels, a front and back panel, and a bottom panel.
- Then came the quilting. I used a simple diamond pattern, just like the real June Box Bag. It took a while, and my fingers were definitely sore afterward, but I have to say, the quilted effect looked pretty darn good.
Assembly
- Next, I stitched the pieces together. This was probably the trickiest part. I had to make sure everything was lined up perfectly, and the seams were neat and tidy. I used my trusty sewing machine, and it took a few tries, but I eventually got it all put together.
- For the YSL logo, I found some gold-tone metal letters and carefully glued them onto the front panel. It wasn’t exactly the same as the real thing, but it was close enough for my liking.
Finishing Touches
- Finally, I attached the chain strap and added a magnetic closure to keep the bag closed. And there you have it, my very own homemade YSL June Box Bag!
It’s not perfect, of course. There are a few imperfections here and there, and it’s definitely not made of real lambskin leather. But you know what? I’m proud of it. I made it with my own two hands, and it’s a pretty good replica of the real thing. Plus, it didn’t cost me a fortune! It was a fun project, and I learned a lot along the way. Who knows, maybe I’ll try making another designer bag sometime. But for now, I’m pretty happy with my homemade June Box Bag.
