Okay, so, I’ve been eyeing this Jaeger-LeCoultre JLC Reverso Tribute Monoface for a while now. It’s a classic, right? But man, these things are expensive! I started by looking at some pre-owned options, figuring I could save some cash and still get a quality piece. After all, they say a used Reverso holds its value pretty well if you take care of it.
I dug around, checking out different models and prices. I saw a post online about someone snagging a green Reverso Tribute back in 2011 for around $8,750 before it became some super exclusive model. Made me think about how prices have probably gone up since then. I just really like the green face, I think that I will go to the store to take a look at it.
Then I got distracted by the Tribute Duoface Calendar. It looked cool on the JLC website, but I could never find one in stock at the local authorized dealer. Finally, I found one to try on. It was nice, I loved it, but that price tag, I should to think about it. I put it down and turn around.
I also did some research to make sure I wouldn’t end up with a fake. Turns out, the only way to be 100% sure is to take it to a jeweler who really knows their stuff. That made me a little nervous, buying online and all, but I figured I could always get it checked out later. I found a jeweler who looked good, marked his address and made an appointment with him.
I noticed they were talking about some new Reversos coming out, including a stainless steel Tribute Monoface that’s supposed to be similar in size to the original from way back in 1931. That got me thinking about the history of the watch, and how it’s kind of a sporty piece dressed up in a fancy suit. You know, I read somewhere that the Reverso is a watch for mature people, and maybe I’m finally mature enough for one. I took out my phone to take a picture of it.
I went back to thinking about who wears a JLC. These watches aren’t just about telling time, right? They’re about quality, about knowing what you’re getting into. So, I started reading more about what kind of person wears a Reverso. I saw this quote about how JLC wearers are people who value quality and want a watch that can go from a business meeting to a family vacation. I’d imagine them wearing jeans, sneakers and a polo shirt.
- Step 1: I went back to check some forums and online marketplaces for pre-owned Reversos.
- Step 2: I found a seller with good reviews and a Reverso Tribute Monoface that looked like it was in good shape.
- Step 3: We negotiated a bit, and I ended up getting it for a price I was happy with.
- Step 4: I took it to that jeweler I mentioned earlier, and they confirmed it was the real deal.
- Step 5: I put this watch on my wrist and go back home, I think I will buy a new leather strap for it.
Finally, I decided to go for it.
So yeah, that’s my story about getting a JLC Reverso. It was a bit of a journey, with some research, some doubts, and a whole lot of excitement. But in the end, I got a watch I love, and I think it was totally worth it. It’s a beautiful watch, and I feel like a million bucks wearing it. It is also heavy!
